Cinnamon Buns are said to be the icon of Swedish fika. They became popular already in the 1920’s but had their real breakthrough in the 1950’s, when Swedish economy boomed and the pricey cinnamon bun ingredients became affordable to the average Swedish household. This popular fika bread even has its own day. October 4 marks ”Kanelbullens dag” in the Swedish fika calendar.
The mix is based on a classic Swedish recipe with lots of cardamom in the dough, cinnamon in the filling and pearl sugar on the top. It makes 20 normal sized cinnamon buns. All dry ingredients (incl dry yeast), as well as baking sheets, are included. Just add butter, milk, an egg and some water.
The baking mix comes in a beautiful gift box, that can be refilled when the fika session has taken place. Inside the box is a card with a photography and a short text (in English) that describes the pastry. Instructions are in both English and Swedish.
